The Central Visayas State College for Agriculture, Forestry and Technology (CVASCAFT), where the main campus is located in this agriculturally-rich town, was not qualified to become a state university but its application was considered.
Even if he was internationally acclaimed for the movies he directed and starred in, Cesar Montano was made the UNESCO Philippine commissioner for culture and the arts for his active involvement in preserving and promoting the Bohol heritage. He has been constantly promoting the eco-cultural tourism of the province.
My alma mater’s name is now Bohol Island State University (formerly CVSCAFT-TCC or Central Visayas State College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Technology). It could just be Bohol State University but the insertion of ISLAND is given by this reason: the abbreviation won’t stand out for there are many BSU’s already in the Philippines. Hmmm…. fair enough?
