Why was it delayed?

PBIA (Panglao Bohol International Airport) will start its construction this October 2009. However, this construction will only be on the runway. The airport terminal will be constructed later so the airport will utilize a certain tent to serve as a terminal when initial operation starts. The runway construction is targeted to be completed on December 2010, the terminal construction around 2011. The governor’s goal to complete the mega-project at his birthday on April 2010 did not materialize as the project’s consultant, PhilJac, had encountered delays in their conducted study as reported via Bohol Chronicle May 10,2009 page 27.

Why an international airport could help Boholanos

Tourism. Employment. Business opportunities. These are some of the many aspects that could be enriched if Bohol has an entrance for the international air. While the opinions of the Boholanos differ regarding this project, it can not be denied that despite the environmental hazards it entails, PBIA will provide convenience for business people, tourists and even residents. My advocacy to the preservation of Mother Earth’s untouched skin maybe limited only to not throwing candy wrappers anywhere . But regarding the PBIA, it’s be best if there are precautions or further studies on how an eco-friendly international airport could be possible. Am I being impossible?

Bohol Solons, President and Boholanos: While there is flow, go with it

It is fortunate that the province’s solons are close allies of the president. Our province is blessed with abundant projects and progressive improvements these past few years. Within this past decade, the provincial roads became national roads, the irrigation improved, the rice production research became adequately funded, the tourist spots are massively promoted. So while our president is loving my hometown to the point of going snorkeling in Balicasag Island, we Boholanos are blessed with many projects. And it is good to have these kind of solons we have who are smart enough to get enough allocation of project funds; some provinces are unfortunate to have minimum projects. I have learned that to secure a fund, these congressmen must be spontaneous enough to secure this fund. I really have no idea of this whole thing in the congress, but it’s the general point of view anyway.

In these times of crisis in the Philippines, no need for citizens’ cynicism

Corruption is inevitable in a country that ranks well in the list of most corrupt countries. Duh! Instead of blabbing about the desperate moral case of our politicians, maybe it’s better to view them as the ordinary citizens we put to office who are still human to easily adhere to temptations. Sure it’s “nakakainis” to hear news about corruption. After all, it is our taxes they are corrupting themselves into. But it is so tiring to complain. At least, here is one project where everybody can benefit from. Whatever financial commission they got from this, I don’t care. It is their own judgment case to settle with the Almighty Creator. As long as they create bridges, water dams, airports and not clubs, cocaine factory, or underground nuclear bomb, Bohol will do good.

It’s good to ask. It’s our tax.

Is it just that the government shall set the purchase price of the lot where PBIA will be constructed? Sixty pesos per square meter! The current average price of Panglao lot is 1000 pesos per square meter. In this case, isn’t it exploitation to take advantage of being a government agency to deprive these Panglao residents the deserved price of their lot? Case in point: they could never refuse to not sell their land neither could they refuse the price. This is surely “nakakainis”.
